Once upon a time . . .
but it started long before I was born! 1918: My grandmother (18 at the time) became the proud owner of a Sears "Kewpie" camera. It sits in my living room today along with an album of her photos that are in excellent condition! 1940's-2012: My father, an avid amateur photographer spent hours showing and narrating his thousands of slides, commenting on composition, exposure, lighting and color - my education begins! 1962-63: As an eager 4-Her, I was amazed that a shoebox with a pinhole and some film at the back actually took some decent photos, my first camera - pure magic! 1964 (or so): Santa brought me a Kodak Brownie camera of my own! Break: I grew up, had babies, worked, played and kept taking pictures. . until 1999-2004: I moved west and worked for WSU/Ferry County Extension Service in Republic, Washington, where I used my first digital camera - it used zip discs! My program director was an avid believer in continuing education, and I was given the opportunity to attend workshops in Photoshop and Desktop Publishing to enhance my role as project coordinator for a USDA funded water quality education project. We purchased a large format printer for the project and were soon turning out banners and posters for extension agents across the state. Our publications earned national awards and recognition and the project had many positive impacts on the community. More magic! 2007-Present: Having become quite the Photoshop wiz, through experience, tutorials, necessity and sheer amazement at what Adobe made possible, starting a business providing real estate photography and virtual tours sounded promising. I took on the task of learning to shoot and create 360 spherical images, shoot architectural photos and create virtual tours that became the standard of excellence in my Hawaiian backdrop! RealTours Hawai'i was created. In 2012, I welcomed Sara Linton in an apprenticeship/photographer role to help meet the growing demand for real estate and vacation rental photography and tours. Sara combined her natural talent and eagerness (and some long hours) to become a highly skilled professional photographer in her own right. So, in 2015, she made the jump, giving up a highly sought after position in one of the area's finest restaurants, to go full time photographer pro. Through her own business, "Sara Marie Photography", Sara delights her clients capturing their precious memories of engagements, weddings, newborns, reunions, 1st birthdays and other events. In 2015, I welcomed 3 new grandbabies into my life, all of whom where born in Colorado (9 grandchildren total!). Sara takes charge in my more and more frequent trips to "Tutu World" to make sure RealTours Hawaii clients are never without the services they have come to depend on. Also in 2015, we joined the RealTour Vision team to offer tours in a multi-media presentation format compatible with mobile devices. My clients love the fact that it offers more tools and options for the viewer to share, like, print flyers, and explore the property and to learn valuable information about the area. Technological advances change how photography is done, used and shared. But it cannot replicate the "photographer's eye" to capture life, landscapes and architecture in unique perspectives - that's what we're her for -and we're always eager to show off your listings and rentals through our photography, video and virtual tours!
